FAQs

Can anyone attend screenings?
The terms of the licenses we have for films restricts us to Members only, so we cannot open screenings to the general public.
Can I bring a friend?
Members can each bring up to two guests for £5 payable on the door per guest
Is there a refund if I only attend a small number of films?

Unfortunately not.  Trying to reflect attendance in membership fees retrospectively would be hard to manage in a fair and practical way.  It would make forecasting our income, and thus our forward film programme, next to impossible.

I only want to see one particular film in a season – is that possible?

If you know a member, you can come as their guest; there is also a half price membership available after Christmas.

Can I come along to a film to see if I want to join?

As above.

Is there discussion of the films after the screenings?

Sadly we have to vacate BRLSI at 9.30 pm, which prevents this; we have considered repairing to a nearby hostelry for such a discussion, but finding sufficient space free at that time on  Friday night is very tricky!  We do have a pay bar from 7pm before each screening, and each screening is preceded by an introduction.

Can I suggest a film for future programmes ?

Absolutely!  We have a suggestions book available at each screening, and you are warmly  invited to provide film details along with your thoughts on why it would be a good film for BFS.

Is there a concessionary membership rate for retired members?
No. Sadly we are unable to offer a blanket concession for retired members unless they qualify under another category.

The concessionary rate applies to BRLSI Members, NHS staff/ care workers, members on low income and members aged 18-25 yrs.

We operate on an honesty policy and no proof of any of these will be required.

Is there step free access to the BFS screenings?
Yes. All screenings are in the Erwin Room on the 1st floor.

The 1st floor has step free access and toilet facilities via an alternative entrance and lift.
Please ring the bell at the main entrance and BRLSI staff will assist you.
