Thanks to Andree and Nigel

BFS members will no doubt share in the Committee’s sadness that Andree and Nigel Peacock are stepping down, while expressing gratitude for their enormous contribution to the strength and reputation of the Society. We’ve been lucky to have this “brace of Peacocks” to steer and inspire us.

Andree has personified the aims and essence of the Society for many years, nearly since its inception. She has always insisted that our screenings be a shared experience – not just to entertain and engage socially, but to provoke discussion and to widen our horizons. Forever on the lookout for “ideal film society choices” while sharing her enthusiasm for new discoveries and overlooked classics alike, she has helped shape the look and feel of each season. Luckily, she will continue to play a part in viewing and deciding on film choices for future screenings.

Nigel’s role in the Society grew organically, from initially being Andree’s enthusiastic “other half” to indispensable volunteer, to Committee member – and ultimately to the post of Chair in 2021. And what a time to take on that role! Nigel was tireless and imaginative in keeping the Society thriving as the world inched back from the Covid restrictions. His patience, diplomacy and a good measure of self-deprecating humour have been just the right ingredients to set us back on course to our current strong position.

Andree and Nigel will know that the Bath Film Society is in robust good health – and forever in its debt to both of them.
